London musicians jazz up a day at the races in aid of MFC Foundation

London based contemporary blues band, Al Ross and The Planets, is swapping Abbey Road for Teesside this summer, in support of an annual charity fundraiser at Rockliffe Hall.

The 90’s four piece, best known for hits such as The River, Talk to Me, and their new single Walking in Circles, are gearing up to headline this year’s Royal Ascot Race Day, held by Wynyard Park.

Al Ross and The Planets, consisting of lead singer and bassist, Al Ross, vocalist Paul Miller, keys player Alex Mingo and guitarist George Wells, recently reformed after an extended hiatus and have released their new album ‘The Planets One’, which was mixed and mastered in world renowned Abbey Road studios in London.

The race day event, which will raise vital funds for Alice House Hospice and Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation, celebrates the start of the race meeting in style, showcasing all the live action from the Berkshire course.

Chris Musgrave, Chief Executive of Wynyard Park said: “We’re delighted to have Al Ross and The Planets join us at this year’s race day event, and we’re thoroughly looking forward to hearing their new material performed live on the day.

“It’s really exciting for the event to have such a talented band perform, and to help raise its profile will in turn raise awareness of why Wynyard Park is hosting this event in the first place.

“The charities that the event is supporting this year are both very close to my heart. My father, Joe Musgrave, who passed away in 2016 was a long-term supporter of Alice House Hospice, and it is important to me that his legacy lives on through fundraising events like this, which support charities that touch the hearts of so many in the region.”

Al Ross and the Planets, who’s new material has been backed by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins, has enjoyed a successful career to date, playing top London venues such as the Troubadour Club, which has hosted the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan.

The Royal Ascot Race Day takes place on the 19th June at Rockliffe Hall in Darlington. For further information on this year’s event, contact lauren.pringle@wynyardpark.com or call 01740 667000.
